A. Absolutely, since 1921.
Q. Are all of your products stenciled “STEELE”?
A. We’re proud of who we are and what we make, so most of our products come stenciled “STEELE”. However, we hand brush on every stencil, and once in awhile we miss an item. If you feel strongly one way or another about your product being stenciled “STEELE”, please be sure to note it on your purchase order or contact us directly.
Q. What is your standard lead time?
A. All products are made to order in our Chelsea workshop, with a typical lead time of 2 - 4 weeks. If you need something in a hurry, please email your request and we will do everything we can to meet your deadline.
Q. Do you have any minimums with your orders?

Q. Can I get my item personalized with a screen print, embroidery, monogram or custom stencil?
A. We offer options to customize some of our products - email for info/pricing. Please note all personalized items are non-returnable.
Q. What is Steeletex?
A. Steeletex is our trademark name for an 18.5 ounce, tear and water resistant, heavy duty vinyl-coated nylon material that is made to our unwavering standards. Think truck tarps.
Q. How are your products measured?
A. Unless specifically stated, all dimensions are outside dimensions.
Q. What is a bushel?
A. Approximately 4 pecks (US) or 3.88 coombs (UK) or for the more traditionally minded, 2 kennings.
Q. How do I care for my Steele Canvas basket?
A. For canvas, carefully spot clean the area with soap and water. For steeletex (vinyl-coated nylon) spray with Simple Green (or degreaser) and wipe clean.
Q. Will your colors bleed?
A. Our canvas is dyed by one of the best dye houses in the U.S. The colors should not bleed, though take care when washing.
Q. Are other colors available besides what’s listed?
A. We carry a wide inventory of material. Email us with your specific interests.
Q. Can I get swatches of your material?
A. Sure. We have a variety of canvas, vinyl and leather swatches. Drop us an email telling us what you would like and we will pop them in the mail.
Q. Do your products require assembly?
A. Some units may require a minimal amount of assembly, such as caster installation or roping on a liner.
Q. What tools do I need to assemble my item?
A. If you are installing casters, you will need a ½” or adjustable wrench. If you are roping on a liner, you will need a minimal amount of hand-eye coordination.
Q. Can the casters on my basket be upgraded?
A. We offer a variety of casters sizes - please email for more details.
Q. How do you calculate shipping?
A. Smaller items are typically shipped FedEx or UPS ground service. Larger items need to be shipped using a truck or freight service. Online purchases can take advantage of our flat fee shipping rates:
0-9 lbs = $10
10-45 lbs. = $20
46-75 lbs. = $40
76+ lbs. = $80
Q. What is the largest basket you can ship via FedEx or UPS?
A. The largest baskets we can typically ship FedEx or UPS Ground are our 6 BU. baskets and trucks (excluding the #’s 50, 52, 60 & 62).
Q. Can I pick up my order at the factory?
A. Sure, though please contact us first to confirm availability. Our regular shop hours are M-F / 9AM-4PM.
Q. Do you offer tours of your factory?
A. Typically no - our shop is set up for producing, not parading.
Q. Does Steele sell internationally?
A. Yes, though depending on the item and shipping destination, freight can get a bit pricey. Let us know where you are - we might have a dealer in your neck of the woods.
Q. Do you have any retail stores?
A. We do not have any retail store locations, but a small selection of our products can be purchased at retailers throughout the country.
Q. What if a part is missing from my order?
A. Send us an email telling us what you need. Our team will ship a replacement part to you as soon as possible.
Q. Can I return an item?
A. Returns are available on most of our products. Please refer to our terms and conditions or email for more information.
Q. Do you do collaborations with other companies?
A. We collaborate with a few select companies each year. Please email if you would like more information.
Q. Do you offer a warranty on your products?
A. We do not offer a warranty, though there’s a reason we’ve been around for 95 years. If you get your product and you don’t like it, send it back. If you get your product and there’s something wrong with it, we’ll take care of it. We’re of the mind that a guarantee is better than a warranty any day of the week.
